General Data Protection Regulation or GDPR is on everybody’s lips since May 2018. But what exactly does it mean for your small business website and how can you make sure you’re GDPR compliant?
It is the biggest regulation of data protection for years. The EU decided to design a complete regulation about the way we collect, store and use data in today’s digital world.
Essentially, they wanted to give people more control over their data and have tougher penalties for those who don’t comply either deliberately or negligently.
Even if you think this isn’t you because you don’t actively collect emails for newsletters, you’re wrong. If you have EU clients/customers and hold any of their personal identifying information, then it applies.
Note – Brexit is unlikely to affect GDPR.
The official definitions is: ‘personal data’ means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (‘data subject’); an identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person.
But you need to take into consideration the risks of violating GDPR. First of all, there are economic consequences, huge fines from the authorities and compensations from individuals. It can harm your company’s reputation, damage the trust and bring negative publicity. Finally, these can lead to loose customers and partners.
It was such a great time working with them and very efficient. I love my new website... it makes total sense now that I followed their advice! Finally, my website is converting and I get more leads. Thank you, guys!
Wow! switched 2 months ago and I am impressed. After running into a wall with my previous host, these guys and girls are great. Thanks a lot and I heartily recommend you to anyone wanting good and affordable WP hosting and maintenance. Best 35 euros I ever spend on a subscription.
These guys might be Dutch, but my site has an international audience. They seem to switch seamlessly between doing major websites and tiny landing pages. They know their stuff in terms of server and WordPress core integrations. My site ran faster after the switch and with the increasing volume, I need a well maintained, secure setup.
The team at Web Friendly has been running my website for a few years, way back before these guys where 123CareFreeWP. I never had any issues and love the fact that they really do take care of all the menial stuff on the site. It's like having a cleaning lady for the website
I worked with Sofia on a website project for one of my beauty clients. Sofia was extremely helpful during the entire process. I would highly recommend her for web development and design work.
It was absolutely satisfying for me to see my followers and my page views rising so rapid! Sofia made a plan and strategy for my business page that was so to the point! Thank you for everything!
When it comes to site reconstruction, Web Friendly is the only solution. Sofia and her team know how to approach the customers, understand their needs and complete in time every task despite the difficulties.
